A client is opening an upscale restaurant to be located in the heart of Brooklyn, NY. Using global design approaches as inspiration I have created a unique guest experience that supports basic human needs (i.e. social interaction, privacy, territoriality, aesthetic enrichment, etc.) and attracts customers of the culturally diverse community. The client has contemporary taste, and the design should reflect a fresh interpretation of global design approaches rather than mimic a particular style.
My concept draws inspiration from the flow and movement of the popular Middle Eastern dance, Raqs Baladi, to create a tangible environment for people to inhabit. This traditional Middle Eastern dance is vibrant, rhythmic, and grounded. The restaurant will allow guests to experience thefluid movement of Baladi from every direction, as if the dance is taking place all around them.
“Architecture and dance share the same language of shape and form - both drawing on texture, color, and rhythm, both manipulating solid and space to define themselves.“ -dancingstrong.com
